THE DIFFERENT COLORS THAT MAKE UP THE BLUE LACED RED WYANDOTTES

Genetically, BLRs are of the Andalusian type of blue. As a result, there are three possible colors on the lacing within the blue laced red family. Blue laced red, white laced red, or black laced red, or as most refer to them simply as blue black or splash. It's easy to see that with all the different variations in color and lacing, why some many poultry enthusiasts thoroughly enjoy the blue laced red Wyandottes.

An good example of a "blue"  blue laced red wyandotte. The blue can come in very many different shades from almost black to very light blue, making it hard at time to discern the light blue from the splash. Pictured here close to the correct "medium blue" It is the blue alone at this time that we hope to one day be accepted by the American Poultry Association or A.P.A.
A black laced or "black blr". Not to be confused with the golden laced variety, it is still genetically a blue laced red. It's also important to point out that the red on a black blr is just that, RED! On a golden laced Wyandotte they are appropriately are gold.
A splash blr. The splash also has varying shades from white, platinum, or dirty white.

Wondering what to breed with what? We attempt to simplify that for you with the following chart.

If you mate:

Blue  X Blue = 50% Blue . 25% Black , 25% Splash

Blue  X Splash  = 50% Blue , 50% Splash

Blue X Black = 50% Blue, 50% Black

Splash X Black = 100% Blue

Black X Black  = 100% Black

Splash X Splash = 100% Splash

These are based on mating of 100 chicks. It is possible to have varying results when breeding smaller #'s when the law of average has yet to take effect.
