inhibitor genes white /black

Postby hoppy1 on Sun Feb 28, 2010 9:40 pm

can anyone tell me what color birds I need to cross to have any black on the bird turn white?
I want to take a wyandotte, possible blr or gold laced and cross it making all the black, white. that way to get a white laced like a white laced red cornish. since I'm having to rebuild my flock, might as well start with this project.
I have 1 blr roo (splash)and 2 splash blr hens as my base.
my thought was to use a dominate white over these birds.
any thoughts?
If you love your bird, thank a breeder.

I would suggest crossing a blue laced red wyandotte (blrW) with a white wyandotte that carried dominant white. The problem is that most people do not know if their whites carry dominant white. The next best choice would be a red sex linked bird that is red with a white tail and white in the wings.

I would cross a good looking male blrw with red sex lnked hen. Then pick put the females that are carry dominant white.

Then back cross the dominant white females to the blrw male. You could also pick out a good looking dominant white male and cross him with some good looking female blrw.

Pick out the best looking offspring with rose combs and back cross them to blrw until you get what you want.

You could also produce splashed laced red by crossing your blue laced red. Once you have splashed laced red birds cross them together. I would do the latter because it would be so much easier.

I have splash laced BLR both hens and a rooster- so what were you saying? I want to be sure I understand this correctly.

You have what you want in the splash laced red birds. There is no need to breed in the dominant white.
